These coins exhibit reverse-proof qualities, emphasizing a frosted backdrop paired with a brilliant, mirror-like dragon image. The Canadian Dragon Series was produced by the Royal Canadian Mint between 2017 and 2023, with each issue featuring a new artistic interpretation of the Chinese dragon.

The obverse design of the 2021 Canadian Dragon Gold Coin features the enduring image of Queen Elizabeth II. This effigy, created in 2003 by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, presents the Queen in right-profile relief without a crown. It stands as one of only two Canadian coin portraits crafted by a Canadian and is notable for its regal simplicity.
