The American Gold Centennial Series was introduced by the United States Mint in 2016. As the name suggests, the series celebrated the 100^th anniversary of three of the mint’s greatest designs from the 20^th century. Included in the 24-karat gold release were the images from the Mercury Dime, the Standing Liberty Quarter, and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar.

Liberty features on the obverse side of 2016-W 1/10 oz American Gold Mercury Dimes. Created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this vision shows Lady Liberty in left-profile relief wearing a winged Phrygian cap. The design was officially known at the US Mint as the Winged Liberty design, but the American public saw the resemblance to the Roman messenger god Mercury and often referred to the coin as the Mercury Dime.

A Roman fasces is found on the reverse of 2016-W American Gold Mercury Dimes. This visual shows the fasces situated vertically in the center of the design element with an olive branch wrapped around it.
