2024 1/4 oz British Gold Tudor Beasts The Tudor Dragon Coin (BU)

One hallmark of royal families is a desire to establish the legitimacy of the ruling monarch. The Red Dragon of Wales was adopted into Tudor symbolism as the Tudor Dragon. Right now, 2024 1/4 oz British Gold Tudor Beasts The Tudor Dragon Coins are available.

The Tudor Dragon is often depicted with the Beaufort Portcullis. The Beaufort Portcullis was originally a badge of the Beaufort family, a legitimized branch of the House of Lancaster. It was adopted by Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of King Henry VII, and subsequently became an important Tudor symbol.

For the obverse of the 2024 British Gold Tudor Beasts The Tudor Dragon Coin, The Royal Mint depicts King Charles III. His Majesty is shown here in left-profile relief and is depicted without a crown on his head. This design was created in 2022 by Martin Jennings.

On the reverse of 2024 1/4 oz Gold Tudor Beast Tudor Dragon is a depiction of the Red Dragon of Wales as used by the House of Tudor. Here, the dragon is shown seated with its wings flexed as it clutches a shield. The shield bears the Beaufort Portcullis, an emblem used by the House of Beaufort.
